What’s Inside:

2. Slate Digital VMR – Revival & The Monster
Slate Digital is now giving away two excellent modules from the Virtual Mix Rack for free—with iLok Machine Authorization (no dongle required).
- Revival – Add air and fatness using emulations of tubes, tape, and transformers
- The Monster – An aggressive compressor modeled after the “all-buttons-in” 1176 effect
🔥 Why You Want It:
Both of these modules shine on buses. I’ve personally been using The Monster for parallel compression on drums—it delivers that signature ‘all buttons in’ FET punch and aggression. Revival, on the other hand, is a secret weapon on vocals and synths. It adds just the right amount of air and warmth to make elements pop in the mix without sounding harsh.

3. Softube – Wasted Space & Fix Phaser
By subscribing to the Softube newsletter:
- You get Wasted Space immediately – A lo-fi plate reverb
- After 6 months, you receive Fix Phaser – A silky modulation tool great for synths and bass
🕑 Limited-Time Offer Extended in 2025
Softube hasn’t given a new deadline, but don’t risk waiting too long.
🔥 Why It’s Useful:
Wasted Space is a must-have if you’re producing lo-fi hip-hop. It works beautifully on plucks and lead sounds, adding that hazy, retro vibe. In some cases, it even sounds great on drums when used as a send effect. Meanwhile, Fix Phaser brings instant vintage character to funky bass guitar lines—and if you’re chasing that Tame Impala-style sound, this one gets you really close.
4. Audio Assault – Mix Locker (10 Free Modules)
Mix Locker is a modular plugin chain similar to Slate VMR or IK MixBox.
🧰 Free Modules Included:
- Gate – Noise gate
- AA Verb – Algorithmic Reverb
- Delay Digital – Multitap Delay
- BLK Compressor – Peak Compressor
- Deessor – De-esser
- Chorus – Chorus Module
- RED Compressor – Soft Peak Compressor
- G-EQ Graphics – EQ with Proportional Q
- ParametriQ – 5 Band Parametric EQ
- HPLP – Filters with adjustable Q
💡 Why It’s Great:
The drag-and-drop FX chains in this plugin are a game changer for mixing and sound design workflows. It’s especially useful on guitars and keys, letting you build and tweak complex FX chains quickly. The best part? You can save and recall these chains in other projects—making your workflow faster and more consistent.
5. JST – Extra Spice
Extra Spice is a frequency-selective analog-style saturator with:
- Heat knob – Overall saturation
- Spice control – Target low/mid/high
- Mix & Auto-Gain – Parallel blending and loudness consistency
✅ What I Like:
It’s low on CPU, zero-latency, and sounds absolutely killer on drum busses, vocals, bass guitars, kicks, and toms. The clean, no-fuss GUI makes it a breeze to use. The frequency-dependent distortion with the ‘Spice’ knob adds serious flavor, and the helpful tooltips at the bottom are a nice touch for dialing things in fast.
6. Kilohearts – Clipper
A simple but powerful clipper with:
- In Gain, Out Gain, Knee, and Threshold
- Visual waveform display
- Works as standalone or as part of the Snapin ecosystem
🥁 Pro Tip:
This one’s perfect for aggressive transient shaping. Want to squeeze out more loudness? Throw it on your busses, clip those peaks to taste, and watch how much harder you can push your final limiter. It’s a loudness hack that actually works.
7. Boz Digital Labs – Bark of Dog 3
One of the best bass enhancers out there—now in version 3.
🎛 Modes:
- Classic – Resonant HPF
- Passive – Pultec-style boost/attenuate
- Combo – The best of both worlds
🎯 Add weight, clean the lows, or reshape your bass completely.
🔥 Why It’s a secret weapon:
You’ll love this one if you produce EDM or Trap. Distorting mid-basses can sometimes kill the low end—this plugin brings that weight back without ruining the grit.
8. Brand0 – Gooper
A creative multi-flanger/phaser using 5 comb filters and a filter sweep.
🧪 Great for:
- Reese basses
- Robotic vocal FX
- Spiral phasing and stereo weirdness
🔥 Why You Want It:
If you’re into sound design, this one’s a hidden gem. Split your heavy Dubstep or Drum & Bass bass sounds into layers, throw Gooper on the mids and highs, automate a few knobs, resample, and repeat. The results? Wildly creative and full of movement.
9. ToneLib – Bax EQ
A digital take on the classic Baxandall EQ with wide, musical shelves and minimized phase shift.
🧼 Perfect for:
- Mastering
- Broad tone shaping
- Smooth high/low adjustments without harshness
💡 Why It’s Great:
The Bax EQ has earned a spot on my master chain. While I personally lean toward Acustica Audio’s Coral Baxter for its rich preamp tone, this one’s perfect when you just want those smooth Baxandall curves without adding extra harmonics. Clean, classy, and super useful.
10. BlepFX – Filtrr
A creative ladder filter with loads of flexibility, perfect for modern sound design workflows.
🔑 Key features include:
- Built-in safety limiter
- 6 different distortion algorithms
- antialising with zero latency oversampling
✅ What I Like:
Honestly, Filtrr is a hidden gem. It’s one of those rare cases where a new developer outshines the big names — and it’s free! I’ve been reaching for this over Ableton’s stock Auto Filter, which says a lot.
Whether it’s for build-ups, breakdowns, intros, or outros, Filtrr has become my go-to for creative filtering. The modulation options are seriously powerful — you can get into FM-style effects with ease. The built-in distortion is just the icing on the cake.
I love automating it with Ableton’s Shaper, LFO, and Envelope Follower to generate tons of unique movement and FX layers in no time.
11. Mensla – Stereo Tool
A unique stereo tool with 6 Mid/Side FX algorithms, 5 filter types and a delay effect.
🧪 Great for:
- Creative stereo widening
- Mid/Side distortion and saturation
- Haas effect
🎯 This plugin hits different:
Not your typical stereo widener. Mensla shines when used on pads, drones, or ambient textures. I’ve been using it to create evolving stereo movement by modulating its parameters with the envelope of other sounds in the mix — and the results are super dynamic.
If you’re after a classic stereo widening effect, tools like iZotope Imager or Polyverse Wider are better suited. But when you want something a bit more experimental and creative, Mensla is a great pick.
12. Artists in DSP – Feedback-Killa Gorilla
A feedback-shaping tool designed for creative sound design with:
• FFT-based frequency suppression
• Four intuitive controls: Limiter, Overdrive, Gain, and Killa
• Dynamic feedback control for evolving textures
🎛️ Pro Tip:
Don’t let the silly name fool you. This is a powerful plugin. I have been using it to creste musical drones, pads and atmospheric elements with feedback. It’s great for experimental and cinematic sound design.

13. Nathan Blair – Halo 3D Pan
A free binaural panning tool built for immersive headphone mixing and 3D spatial placement.
🔑 Key Features Include:
• Azimuth and elevation controls for full 3D positioning
• Width control for stereo imaging
• Focus knob to blend between spatial and traditional panning
• Uses binaural impulse responses for realistic movement
✅ What I Like:
This plugin has been super useful in my post-production work for a short film. I’ve used it to place background foley sounds around the listener’s head, and the results are incredibly immersive. It’s perfect for background scores, ambient FX, and anyone working with spatial sound design.
14. Fors – Sala
A lush, modulated reverb that transforms simple sounds into rich ambient textures.
🧪 Great for:
• Haunting melodic leads
• Ambient pads and textures
• Creating massive spatial effects
🔥 Why You Want It:
Sala isn’t your typical room reverb — it’s a vibe creation engine. I dropped it on a default patch in Arturia Pigments and ended up with a ghostly lead sound that became the centerpiece of my track. Whether you’re designing cinematic spaces or adding shimmer to synths, Sala delivers big, emotional results.
15. Analog Obsession – MythPre & Attractor
Two powerful analog-style plugins from one of the best free plugin developers out there.
🎛️ MythPre – A tube mic preamp with:
• Gain-compensated input drive
• 4 input types: Mic, Line, DI, Tone Shaper
• 4x Oversampling for cleaner saturation
🎛️ Attractor – A transient processor that:
• Splits audio into attack and sustain paths
• Lets you shape punch and body independently
• Works as both a surgical tool and sound mangler
🔥 Why You Want It:
Analog Obsession consistently punches way above its weight class. I’ve used MythPre to add beautiful low-end warmth to live vocals, and Attractor on drum recordings to bring out punch without muddying the sustain. These are also a staple in my mixing classes—high-quality tools that my students can actually access. Honestly, they rival some of the paid giants (you know who) — for free!
